The third step of the Design Thinking process is Ideation. This step is a complete brainstorming process in which the students’ goal is to come up with as many ideas as they can and record them on sticky notes as they go. The focus here is on quantity, not quality, something you don’t hear often. Crazy ideas are encouraged!
Participants practice deferring judgment on ideas – their own and others’ – until themes emerge, building on the ideas of others, and honoring the ways in which people communicate their creativity. In the Octagon, everyone chanted, “Talk Less! Make More!” before breaking letting the Post-Its fly.
